Hi Pauly

I was given the option of rear "helper" springs but as my track days will be once in a blue moon I didn't deem them necessary.

Stuart

Hello, as long as you are happy with the setup that's fine, though coilovers would have given more options at the rear.

Pauly

What options would they give?

Rich

What options would a height adjustable coilover with a easily altered spring rate give ?.

Not a lot unless it is on track. Will also need the torsion bars re-indexed otherwise you'll have a very high spring rate.

Speaking from personal experience my spring rate doesn't feel particularly high and adjusting the rear offside ride height to compensate for torsion bar sag and driver weight was easier than to undoing the spring plate bolts.

You adjust spring rate for driver weight - how do you do this so precisely?
Will you be adjusting after christmas if you eat too much?

You'll be telling us you adjust every time you fill the tank up soon.

 Haven't adjusted my coilovers spring rate but I have the option to. I don't believe in Christmas and I never put more than £20 of SUL in.

Well gents, fitted the back shocks last night and removed one of the front ones today. I was surprised that the new ones are about 3 inches shorter than the old ones that came off. I have only stipped one side as I think they may be a bit low for street use. Anybody any idea of how low you can go before things start scraping??? The difference of the fitted heights of the wheels are huge. Pics below

Image

The old shock still on

The new shock fitted

The lower wishbone is pretty much 90 degrees square to the body whereas the old one droops a fair bit.

Will have to get the car on the ground tomorrow and see how much into the arch it goes.

Car has now had geometry set-up and Alasdair kindly dropped it back home yesterday. Took it out last night and what a remarkable transformation! People said the car would be transformed and they were so right!

It tracks nice and straight, damping is superb, cornering is ultra positive and there is virtually no body movement under braking. I can only imagine this is close to how the car would have handled when it rolled out the factory 20 years ago, maybe even slightly better with the 968 castor mounts on.

Big thumbs up for the GAZ stuff and a big thank you to Alasdair for slaving away on my car whilst I was sun bathing in Tenerife! Top job and terrific result! :D

how about a pic of your new ride - I'm keen to see the new stance looking at those pics Alisdair posted on the lift.

Car drives well Rich, nice and compliant. Steering felt spot on as well. Only ball ache is having to make a bracket for the brake pipes, ABS sensor ,etc. Thursday job for me, will put up pics when done,

I think you may have pointed me into the right direction with this upgrade when I get around to it. I was deciding between these, Konis and KWs. I think currently my car is on 7 year old Konis (well the fronts don't seem to be touched (but the bodies/springs certainly look clean and rust free, with the rears being yellow bodied with no logos on them).

Hi Rich

There is masses of adjustability with the Gaz shocks. They go from extreme at one end to very comfortable at the other end. :D

Mines are currently set at about 4 if 1 is softest and 10 is hardest and the ride is just about perfect for road use.

Stuart

Stuart,

Is there a way to get an e-mail address for these guys? I have tried a few avenues of contact to them here in the States with no luck. The one Gaz rep I did get said that they do not make a shock or coilover assembly for these cars....even after I forwarded him you pics (Yes he was an idiot).

Either way, let your man know I have about 13 complete sets (front and rears) sold, with at least 10 or so more waiting to see the actual product first.

If he prefers he can contact me @ CPRacing_aero@live.com

Thank you very much for the information in this thread and any help in contacting them direct.

Car looks GREAT by the way

PATRICK
