We shall see on the day....
My 1988 944 Turbo S (Silver Rose - 1988 Turbo cup) has a 1/4 mile figure of 13.5 but I have never managed better than 14.01 myself.

You have to be very very brutal to get figures like this. One of the reasons that drag racing has never really pressed my buttons. The 944 is all about purity of handling & roadholding so hammering it like this proves nowt.
A clutch on a 944 is around a £1,000 in real terms, I could do 3-4 track days & not cause as much wear & tear.

Try it Jim.
You will like it.
Alan Wells cooked the clutch in his 928 SE on one run at York.
After it had cooled it was fine.

Sean

Maybe we should have a prize for the person getting a time to match the factory ones?
Nobody ever seems to manage it in a 'standard' car.

I must have left my plums in the bank with my empty balance after having a new clutch and rear linkage fitted £900 which although great value does not inspire me to thrash the living daylights out of it for 1/4 mile of mine is bigger than yours.

Each to their own but I would rather drive it quickly around some nice country roads or a track than in a straight line, so not for me thanks but good luck and I know a great engineer who does a good price on fitting new clutches, although I might go along to watch particularly if there is something other than RWYB going on say some top fuelers or funnies.

Sorry Stephen, but I didn't buy the 968 to break it 1/4 of a mile at a time and that has nothing to do with the size of my plums!

If that was my interest I would have bought myself a nice Saxo and a subscription to Max Power :D

Each to his own as they say....

Hi :)

You wont get any Top Fuel cars on a RWYB day, they need a LOT more safety stuff...

On the subject of clutches, I spent around 8 years on Top Fuel teams and I VERY RARELY saw normal cars take out a clutch......Top fuel or Promod yes lol :)

The launch is not that important anyway for speed , it only saves maybe a tenth on times as well, so just drive the car like you would trying to pull away from the traffic lights when trying to beat the guy beside you at the lights and that enough...once you have traction, you can boot it in each gear, and if you have a manual you can Power Shift (no clutch) in each gear if you wish or just drive normally, you will NOT reach top gear anyway :)

All the best Brett :)

Would love to have a go. Can't see how with the little power us N/A 944's have you can do much damage. Your not going to toast your brakes or shred your tyres like a track day would. But I don't think I'd be allowed on the strip with baby in the back no matter how safe it is. Maybe a different story with a 928. We all know how fragile they are.

Its the taking part and meeting up that is the most fun.
Babies are not alllowed on the strip.
Mine makes a fuss about it everytime.
There is a fastest 944 NA prize.

Stephen
