:) I'm new to this forum but would appreciate a little advise from the more experienced on here if possible.
I'm in the process of buying a 1993 928 GTS manual which has a couple of minor things I woud like to sort out once I get it. From what I've read on here, and in pretty much every advert I've seen, the first is a common problem. The car is fitted with sports seats and there is some wear to the drivers side bolster and also the foam in the same seat squab is either worn or there was never much in the first place. It's nothing that deperate but I'd like to address these if possible. So the first question is would a new seat still be available from Porsche or can somebody recommend an upholsterer who would be able to replicate the factory finish.
There is also some minor damage to the passenger door seal which I would like to replace, again are these available as a replacement part through an OPC. If they are available are there any major problems in fitting them or is it a DIY job.
Also is it possbile to replace the steering wheel with a non airbag variant or even a better looking air bag wheel from a different model. If using a non air bag wheel will it cause the display to constantly show an air bag malfunction message.
And finally can anyone recommend a 928 specialist in the Essex/Suffolk are, I know people recommend Paul Anderson but he's an awful long way from where I live.
Sorry the post is so long but I thought I'd get those things I know of out the way in one go. :)

Hi

I have a 95 GTS auto.

The most viable option of the seat is probably to take to an upholsterer. I would recommmend 'Southbound' for material.
I asked back in 96 about a new seat for my 944 Turbo and was told at the OPC that Porsche electric seats they were all roughly 5K each.

That wheel contains an huge american sytle air bag originally designed for use without a seat belt and way bigger than the modern Euro types hence the size. There are nicer steering wheels availiable but they are expensive. The wheel can be replaced by a non-air bag model and the wiring altered by an auto electrician so the car thinks the airbag is ok. I think this is not covered by the MOT/insurance but I'd check.

The door seals are around 100 pounds each. They should still be availiable from the OPC. They are currently availiable from 'Forest Fine'. However I would not recommend the latter as I bought a pair for my GTS and they are not of the same quality as the originals.

Stephen

Hi :)

I had the same problem with the seat on my 928 S2....ripped and most of the foam had vanished (fell out of rip i think)

Cost me £70 to have the leather bolster section replaced with new foam under it....

Steering wheels....I replaced mine (non airbag) with a 320 mm Momo (I have a picture if you want I will post it ? )

Massively better as a smaller diameter and square bottom....much better for the twisties by far, and yes you can get the sensor disabled if you fit a non airbag wheel...

I realise Paul Anderson is a way from you, about the same distance as from me, but hes SO GOOD that its worth the drive.....he is truly amazing....

All the best Brett :)

Can only comment on the door seal.

They are OPC part. Mine cost about £120 sourced from US.

Haven't fitted it yet but they look easy compared with other seals like window scrapers. For neatest job you should remove door stay, but many people don't bother removing stay (have to take off door card first) and just cut the seal then glue back together.

:) Thanks for the replies, I don't really want to pay 5K for a seat, there's a very nice pair on Pistonheads but sadly the ribbing is a different spacing so I'd then need to try and get ther ear seats done to match. I'll try and fined a local upholsterer that can repair the seat, there's a company in Essex that mainly do interiors for custom cars but they'd probably be able to do it.
I'll have to check re the MOT side of things as to whether the airbag is compulsory or not, if not I shall change the wheel for an RS or Momo.
As for the door seal if it involves removing the stay and door card I may well get it fitted professionally as I'd rather it was done properly than cut and glue it.
Thanks for the replies any further advice appreciated. :)

:) Thanks for the link re the door seal, I'm assuming it's a pattern part at that price? just waiting a reply from the seller. :)

Hi :)

I doubt, although I may be wrong that pattern parts are available for door seals, so it may well be genuine...

All the best Brett :)
