Ok so sadly I'm going to need a new clutch. Gear selection has been odd and it doesn't really feel like a toasted clutch but asking around general consensus is that that is where the problem lies.
Last one changed was at 78209 miles on 01/08/93 and it cost £927.87. Aren't old records great!
Now I am on 227402 so I suppose it was about due! It just never comes at the right time does it. But can't have the old thing sat in the garage so I'll bite the bullet and get it sorted.

Best price so far is a round 1000 somewhere I've used before. I think this will be very competitive but if anyone knows different please don't be shy.
Bearing in mind I am planning to wind the bhp up a little 300ish is it worth considering anything other than standard OEM sachs kits?

Looking at JMG site replacement clutch is anything from £869 on a 2.5 lux to £1400 for a turbo car pushing out upto 400bhp

These prices include fitting but mail order prices are available.
My turbo se will be around 330bhp soon and Jon hasn't said anything about changing the clutch. All I'm changing is the gear shift for a more precise feel.

Only people I use and recommend so can't help with any other recommendations.

You say it never comes at the right time, how do you mean? And when was the last time that your clutch fluid was changed? It could be an iffy master cylinder or other related things.

As for different clutches be careful. Performance clutches are designed to take more power without slipping but in the the same instance they are also designed to last a limited lifetime, whereas OEM clutches are designed to last alot longer. 120k isn't too bad for a clutch if it has gone!

I had a quote from CarTech and Care in Northallerton (ex Redline mechanic) fro £300 to fit plus the clutch kit which I could get from Frazerpart Porsche for around £437inc vat. So £737 for my 944S2.

Fair point about upgraded parts - that's why I was asking.

What is the quoted time for a clutch? - I've read anything between 13 and 26 hours!

I believe the quoted time for a clutch for an S2 is 9 hours and for a turbo 13-14 hours as exhaust etc has to come off.
