Over the last week the heaters have developed a mind of their own. Very hot unless the switch is almost on cold - so hot it could be erotic heating

Turn it down to about 16 and it goes cool, then it will go hot again by itself, then cool, and so on.

Has anybody had any problems with their heaters? Any ideas?

Thank you.

Could be a few thinks I think, vacuum leaks or a faulty heater valve, are probably the most common and easiest to check.

Thanks. Could you tell me the easy way to check them then so that I can get it sorted. I'll also look in the Haynes manual and hope that the S2 system is the same as the older models the manual covers.

Pretty sure the S2 is different to the earlier cars & the Haynes covers a very early car.
You'll probably be better off with clarkes or pelican.
I'd add into the pot, the temperature sensor behind the dash & possibly the clip broken on the cable.

Well done Jim.... again!

First thing I checked was the clip. It is broken, in fact it looks like it has been botched in the past with a rawlplug and some superglue.

Where's the best place to get a clip from?

Has anybody who is breaking a car got such a clip?

Thank you.

Patting self on head

TBH I'd try an OPC, old bits will have deteriorated, especially if someone has to unclip if off an old car. Both Exeter & Tonbridge OPC will post bits & both give discount to TIPEC members. John Hoskins contact at Tonbridge tell him Jim from TIPEC SELNK sent you.

Thanks Jim, I'll do that.

I've been around the local scrap yard looking for a clip, but all the modern cars seem to use cables rather than rods. For the time being I've used a tie-wrap and it's working fine.

However I will order a new one on Monday.

Thanks again.

Both my cars have needed a clip over the years. Without digging out the reciepts I'm confident they were around the £1 mark

Had to do this job myself a few weeks ago. Local OPC was the only place I could find to get them. Can't fault the service, no charge including free postage!!
