Does anyone still use clunky stuff like IE?

Browsers like Firefox are far superior on basis of tabbed browsing alone, let alone raft of other advantages. If I have to use IE on someone else's machine it seems kind of quaint by comparison.

Tabbed browsing is in IE7 though. I think that's one of the reasons I didn't bother with the competition.

Adam

Tabbed browsing has been in FF for eons, but aside from that it's faster, has lots of useful plugins & tends to be more secure.

Tabbed browsing and mouse gestures have been in opera for yonks.

Mouse gestures and the ad-block/noscript plugins for firefox are the biggest things I miss when forced to use IE.

Anyone tried Google Chrome? Thought I'd try it the other day, wasn't that impressed though.

I've tried using IE, Opera, Firefox, Chrome and Safari and prefer Firefox.

Opera is a close second but doesn't have the support and will sometimes render things a bit strangely. As long as there's nobody saying that IE6 then there'll be no problems here. As a web designer IE6 is the cause of most of my headaches and the sooner it dies the better.

My Son tried FF on his laptop and screwed it up completely so uninstalled it and went back to IE much more stable and actually works.

That's a first never ever heard of anyone having problems with FF. It now has around 30-35% of the browser market so a lot are happy with it!
Microsoft are talking of discontinuing development for IE anyway.

Probably something else loaded on the PC rather than FF causing the issues but had no time to diagnose the fault. Pretty stuck with IE as I get my S/W through work legally at a very low price including McAfee and IE with updates so if I want to keep using the cheap source of S/W then stuck with corporate choice of IE.

Chrome. Shiny stuff from the devil. Promises so much. It led me astray with it's minimalism and immediate opening, and I celebrated and thought I would convert the world to Chrome.

Then it all turned to dust and everytime it would give a message like "On this occasion it seems something went wrong". Only it was every occasion. I pleaded with it to repent its wickedness but it remained a wicked goblin. So I read out the exorcism rites and banished it from my IBM laptop.

I hope I did, it seemed to want to put an awful lot of files onto the machine.

Be worth downloading & running something like CCleaner (it's free) to clean it up.
