Just to answer your original question, my 944S2 handbook states 36psi front and 44psi rears however I find the ride quite harsh with these settings but haven't changed them. I need a new set of tyres so maybe when I get them on I will ask the same question as you did. I run 255/40/17 rear and 225/45/17 fronts but as mentioned previously it is not recommended to run over 17" even with 968 castor bushes and the like.

Going to order these :http://www.deutschnine.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=porsche-transaxle&Category_Code=porsche-transaxle-944-turbo-s2-tuning-handling The complete set up. Could have gone down the better porsche route( (funny rear engine 911 thing) to suit the new wheels, money not a problem but hey, I like to be different. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes when I order and fit it. Next Week I'll post the pics of how I repaired the ripped front seats with a leather repair and new dye Kit.I went from blue to a custom matched beige. Really really hard work but the results are awesome if I say so myself. I'll post a step by step picture guide of how it went.

If your car was built in a different year it would have said 36 all round (I think). 44 is nonsense bordering on dangerous as the back end skips and hops around. It also wears you tyres out round the middle. Drop it at least 6psi and the car will be transformed.

I'm virtually lost for words. Willy waving? Bravado? Desperation? Why would you fit 19" wheels that compromise the handling to the point of ruination then drop more £ than the car is worth replacing the entire suspension system?

Note that the page is S2 tuning and handling. If you were going to include the lower brace then save your money as it doesn't fit a Turbo.

Cheers Fen, yes I know the page says s2 but I'm only ordering the parts for the turbo cars. I've heard some really good things about the Kw suspension and parts and since I'm under taking a complete rebuild including rebuilding the currently tuned 300 bhp engine to a 2.8 lump before the car is completely re-sprayed I thought why not. As I said before I'm different. I know I'm spending way more then the car will ever be worth but it's something I take passion in doing. I've alway made just about every car I've ever owned completely different from any other out there. Apart from my every day driver because I'm not as some people may think a show off. It's just my hobby. Ps I do every bit of work my self and don't give someone a huge bundle of cash and let them do it for me. There's no cense in achievement in that. Maybe I'm just mad

Im not a massive fan of the KW suspension (I prefer GAZ), but if you go down that route youre going to have to lose the 19" wheels, Im sure. Id suggest 17"s as the largest that you should fit there, but I will stop short of suggesting that you drill a 60mm hole just ahead of your rear wheelarch to help with re-indexing your torsion bars..... :)

I think I'm right in saying you haven't tried KW though Simon? To be fair I haven't tried GAZ either, but for that reason I wouldn't claim to have an opinion.

Youre absolutely right, I havent. I have been enthusiastic about GAZ for a while, as I was about (old) Leda before that. Leda is a different company now (and based quite near to me in Ashbourne, Derbyshire) and GAZ have usurped their position fully, in my opinion. I have driven KW equipped cars and I wasnt particularly impressed: a view re-inforced by Kevin Eacock (who prefers GAZ too).

Gary,

I don't want to be rude, but if the problem is the wheels, then changing other (mucho expensive) bits of suspension won't solve the problem. KW kit is regularly raved over, and it is seriously good stuff, but if the problem is that your wheels are too big, then you need to make the wheels smaller ... surely?

Each to their own and all that, but I'm not quite sure what your goal is here. :?

As you yourself stated your daily hack tramlines on the same peice of road as your 944. Does this not lead you to the conclusion that the road surface is rubbish and not really a problem with the car?

Hello Gary, I think it's been established now that the 16 or 17 inch wheels are the "sweet spot" for 944's, nearly everything I've read suggests that ride suffers when you fit bigger wheels whatever the car, I've got 18s fitted but although I love the look, 17 inch cups would be on my car if I could find a set for reasonable money.

If you're trying to work out if it's the wheels or the road Gary, I've got a 1990 Mini in my garage that I am in the slow process of changing the rear subframe on. You can borrow the wheels off that for a couple of weeks to see if there's any improvement over your 19" ones. They're 145 70 R 12 - any good? You did say you like to be different!

phew storm in a teacup this one, so i'll add my tuppence worth, totally agree with previous posters re tramlining and the problem being the road surface if many cars tramline, and agree that the car looks the biz with those wheels, but the 944 was originally designed to run 15s, the turbo and optional were 16s, and the early 968s had 16s with the laters on 17s. when i changed mine i spoke to many 944 owners who were running 17 and 18s and they all said the ride had suffered so i went for 968 16 inch cup 1 wheels and have no issues

Hi Gary and welcome on board. I think the pressures you are trying will be about the best you can get for that tyre size. I believe you will always get tramlining down this particular road (especially if you get it on 16's and with the other car you mentioned). The thinner the tyre wall the greater it will seem as there is less flex in the tyre wall and so the wheel will want to follow where the tyre goes.

I've seen the adverts for those wheels and if you have the narrow body versions they are probably 8.5" front and 9" rear but it doesn't mention offsets. My 17" track wheels are the same widths and are ET50 front and ET55 rear fitted with 245/40 and 275/40 tyres and they are fine on 32psi front and 33psi rear for the road

Hi mate.
At the end of the day, it's your car so do what you like to it!
Looks cool on the 19's and if you can live with them that's all that counts.
