Porsche 944 engine number info

just been given a porsche engine & gearbox, i'm not sure what it's out of, the main dealers will not help as the engine has been sat outside under a sheet and i don't have the V5. The engine number is 944.603.134.1R (or 1A) It's 944, but that type, i tried the web but no luck, any info would be appriacated, Gaz

Not sure. There are engine numbers listed on clarks garage site for the oil pressure relief valve that would identify your engine but there different to yours. The number is on top of the bell housing looking down from the back of the cam box (if it was in the car.) eg 43 H 01920
Using this I worked out that my engine was an 1983 block though the car is 1987. So the rebiuld was an exchange engine!

That isn't an engine number that's a part no!

Pretty sure that their is an engine number list on Pelican or Clarkes, I'm in a hotel room in Copenhagen at the mo so can't look it up!

The engine number is on the back of the block where it meets the bellhousing.
