ABS Sensor!?
Just recently, ABS triggers fault on dash. Although the S2 has not really been used for any distances in the past 2 years, the car had been driven very briefly with no issues. Anyhow, the next step was brakes, so would look at the issue at the same time as replacing discs, pads, hand brake shoes. sensor wires etc.
Followed the very informative Waylander 968 ABS refurb & it seems like my issue indicates a faulty sensor or a faulty earth wire.;
"If the light goes out with engine start, then comes on when reaching 3-5 MPH this is caused by a malfunctioning wheel sensor, ground or the sensor."
Decided to take out all sensors to clean & inspect. Rear were quite dirty. Front had similar resistance at 1.02/3(20K on DVM) but rear dissimilar; driver's side 1.56 & passenger .96, again same setting on DVM. Turns out, rear passenger is a different sensor to the others, although also Bosch, as well as the most difficult to take out. Eventually, when removed, it was twisted giving the impression of previously forced in place or some other mystery.
Tested all for DC voltage, this time driver's rear side seemed to reach higher voltage with rotations.
Conclusion. Would like to replace both rear sensors & my question; where do you suggest best to buy online & are these sensors used on other cars so to avoid Porsche pricing?

Re: ABS Sensor!?
Hi
ignore the ground in the guide, the ABS is a closed circuit and does not use the cars ground system at all
the best thing to do is see if there is a bosch part number on the Sensor then start searching for numbers around the same
I would take a bet that Mercedes or BMW used exactly the same parts as the ABS pumps are used on mercedes too
something around the 190E era

OE part number is 944 606 401 02 but Bosch part number is 0265 006 142. Tried to find part not from Porsche but haven't succeeded with a reasonable price. From the usual places, still very expensive.
Could try to replace the non OE part for now to try as well.

Re: ABS Sensor!?
Info
https://www.bosch-automotive-catalog.co ... 0265006142
https://www.mister-auto.co.uk/abs-senso ... 5-006-142/
they were also fitted to the 964 from 1993, so you can use that as a search as well 944 606 401 02
they are all pretty much the same thing a Hall sensor, its just the package that changes,
so the one you are looking for might be 0 265 006 142, but the next number 0265 006 143 might not be for the 944 because the lead is 20mm longer but has the same sensor and plug.
so just start searching for number close then look at the pictures, you might find something with the same sensor but different plug, time to chop off the plugs and get the soldering iron out.
anything that better than the £152.00 genunine Porsche price is a saving and as the parts get harder to find you have to start thinking laterally to keep it all running

Yes, original Porsche part price is horrendous, as other brands are 30/35% the price.Waylander wrote:Info

944 606 401 02 is OE part number & 0265 006 142 is the actual Bosch part number on the sensor. To my understanding, it seems the 0265 006 is the actual part & 142 may relate to the wire. The following seems to be the case. I'm assuming it to be the same sensor(including dimensions) except for the wire length. So, most prob, will buy two of these & as suggested, whip out the soldering gun...

Re: ABS Sensor!?
I can now confirm they are a perfect match/fit; Bosch part number 0 265 006 344.Waylander wrote:Just checked the bosch site, both sensors are package DF6, so your in with a good chance

As mentioned, they are shorter & needed to be extended as they are not for the the 944. So, soldered extension lead cut out of the old ABS sensor in between sensor & plug.
Have yet to try them out on the road as now have another issue; changed the CV Axle boot & when torque tightening new bolts, the bolts keep shearing
Will have to wait till tomorrow for shops to open and buy maybe 10 or 12+ high tensile bolts.

Re: ABS Sensor!?
30lb/ft is not much, bet they have been over tightened in the past,
I put new 12.4 high tensile bolts in mine bought pack of 40 off Kay’s Fasteners on eBay M6 x 80mm Allen heads, about £8 I think
I will update the sheet on the website
