I spent some time tidying the console / radio wiring, I have eveything sorted as follows:

Red & Red/White permanent live from fuse 36

Grey switched live from fuse 39

Brown -ve

Lastly the mystery blue wire, it is in the factory harness along with the above, so it is not a previous owner addition, I have removed the screen aerial amp so its nothing to do with that, its not the dash lights....

Does anyone have any idea what the blue wire is? It does seem the 1988 wiring is an 8v 16v hybrid, and the diagrams on the web dont cover it...

Cheers.

Pete.

Blue is normally accessory, such as power amp/electric aerial amp switch on. Does the car have a roof aerial?

It does, but its an aftermarket aerial.

I have tested all the electrics and everything works, so as you say its probably someting to do with the optional power amp...

The blue was to do with the dimming system on the original graphic equaliser. It's not required for modern stereos.

Cool Thank You, I'll leave it insulated and out of the way.
