Annual Sprint Event

Post by PaulPSB »

Hi Folks

On Wednesday 24th May 2017 we have our annual Sprint day at Curborough near Lichfield. We will run on the full circuit as this allows more speed to be built up from the start line.

For novices please note only one car will be on circuit at a time and there is plenty of run off so very unlikely to damage you or your car.

Circuit time will be 10am - 5pm with a forced one hour lunch break from 1-2pm

Arms and legs must be covered and helmets worn on track by drivers and passengers. Anyone going out on circuit will be required to sign disclaimers for the circuit and club. All drivers must attend a safety briefing at 9.30am or 1.30pm for Afternoon slots

There will be no noise limit on the cars.

For Drivers Breakfast butties and lunch will be provided within the cost and tea/coffee until approx. 2.30pm when the caterer will pack up for the day. Full day cost £68

Any passengers/2nd drivers must pay £11.50 for this catering deal or pay as they go from the caterer on the day.

Please get in touch with me via PM to book a slot and then send a cheque payable to "TIPEC Central" or pay by bank transfer.

I will give you bank details or address via PM.

Email to paulpsb928@yahoo.co.uk followed by payment reserves your slot.

Regards

Paul

How does this differ from a track day Paul? Have never heard of sprints before.

Wayne as Jason said its a short track approx a mile round depending on what configuration/amount of laps we decide to do & theres only ever one car on track at a time. Being short also means you get plenty of time on track with minimal waiting between runs for everyone.

Its really good fun & you will learn a lot about your cars handling.

This you tube footage will give you a good perspective of the track

No just a helmet & arms & legs covered as per Pauls instructions from original post:-

"Arms and legs must be covered and helmets worn on track by drivers and passengers. Anyone going out on circuit will be required to sign disclaimers for the circuit and club. All drivers must attend a safety briefing at 9.30am or 1.30pm for Afternoon slots"

For a track day at Donnington, Mallory etc you will pay £200+ so at £68 with food & drinks its a bargin.

Note:
You will need to take your own helmet.

Hi Pal

I think the replies have answered the questions. A sprint track is different as only one car at a time and it's a short blast so not enough to get tyres, brakes etc overheating.

You will learn a great deal about your car and your driving on a sprint. You won't get a better value day out anywhere IMO

You can always ring me on an evening for a chat if you want more detail - contact details are in All Torque

Cheers

If you were competing in a sprint event, that might be true, but this isn't timed or anything like that. Having been to both Blyton and Curborough, it could be argued that Curborough is safer than Blyton as there's only ever one car on the track at once.

Cheers chaps. I have a helmet but it's open faced - I've been refused before, is that acceptable? (I'm not buying another lol).

I could be wrong, but it's a TIPEC organised event, and not a race event, untimed but needs to be safe. I think you'll be OK with open faced.
HOWEVER: We're a good bunch, so if it's an issue, I wonder if someone would lend you theirs whilst their not on the track (remember - only one car at a time), and if that's a problem - I'm in Loughborough which is pretty much on the way between North Hykeham and Curborough so drop by and I'll lend you mine.

Put simply: YOU HAVE TO DO THE TRACK DAY and find ways of overcoming issues, rather than not do it. You won't regret it, it's fun.
And, you could possibly get a passenger ride too so you'll see how other cars handle. I went in a GT2 - scared the cr@p out of me!

Alas, my own ride is Miss Daisy's daily driver so has been retired from track days.
