There is a screw with a hex head in the AFM which regulates idle mixture, it needed tweaking at my last MoT. On the S2 it's underneath in a channel.

Fitted new brake shoe retaining spring with my Mecerdes tool still needed a washer as it buried itelf in the spring and made sure it was securely locked in this time. New discs arrived and proceeded to fit front but caliper would not go on. Measured disc thickness and they are 32mm old ones 28mm and slightly smaller diameter, I've got 928 ones by mistake, Going to try the old 993 calipers I've got with an adaptor. Not found the bent disc but o/s front locks under hard braking. The old (not very) front discs are a horrible rusty mess with signs of severe overheating on the pads.

Thanks Endoman :) forgot to say it's the 924 2.0 NA that's in for MoT... I think I've found the idle mixture as its a similar 3mm hex.... Only just got in from the office so will have a play in the morning

Couldn't quite get access to the mixture screw so have given the car back to the garage for them to fathom out and run the retest in the morning. I did take the liberty of fitting my new rear number plate LED's and when I switched he lights on to test all was well I seemed to get a slightly smoky dash from around the light switch....

Further investigation revealed a somewhat melted dash light dimmer....

Image

So the switch had to come apart....

Image

And the offending dimmer coil removed....

Image

Anyone have a spare switch I can buy from them :help:

Image

Still I have lights - just not dash lights just at the minute

New PZeros fitted to replace my old and quite knackered Dunlop SP9000s. 225 fronts 245 rears: the Turbo size option but like hens teeth to find here in SA (no longer imported). Fortunately with a bit of help from PC were sourced.

Mixed day, the 993 front calipers will fit on the 928/M030 discs with the adaptor from Promax (great very rapid service). Next step reverse the link pipe and bleed nipples so the pistons are the same orientation as the 944, big upper, small lower (or is it the other way round) any way it's meant to even pad wear. One link pipe came easily but the other wouldn't budge, so cut pipe hammered a socket over flare nut. Bit of pad lift so plates off, easier than I anticipated. Already missing one and I've lost it. So new link pipes and 1 plate repair kit ordered (this was meant to be an inexpensive job).
I've had the calipers lying around for a few years and was pleased I could use them as M030 calipers are like Rocking horse do-da. Pistons are same size as M030 and I can use std 993 pads which I think are same as M030. Next job will see if 16" wheels will fit, though I am running 17"s atmo. I'll post some piccies and part nos. if it all works if not I'll just go and drown my sorrows.

Good work there! Not a bad silver lining to the cloud of the wrong disc :D Looking forward to seeing pics of the end result.

I just took the 924 back for the retest on the MoT and then took the 968 for a run to the office. Very nice with the sun making an appearance through the Saratoga roof 8)

Replaced the sunroof seal and swapped out the drivers wing mirror motor. First couple of tinkering steps to get my 944 turbo back on the road after been laid up due to having 3 kids in 4 years !

She passed :D amazing how low the Co2 is now - just hoping she's not too lean and she does idle now at just 600 rpm :? There are now some interesting exhaust notes in the overrun.... :D

That CO2 does look a bit weak, mine is set at 2.5.
Changed the rear discs and pads. The sensors did their usual crumbling apart trick so cut and spliced the wires. I'll be swapping pads for the next track day, the Pagid yellows don't half chew the discs up and they squeal. I left the anti squeal shims out and used Wurth stuff on the pad backs, works a treat. Ordered a 5/33 PV so I can play around with the brake bias when I fit the M030 spec fronts. The disc where the hand brake shoes had come adrift was warped so the hammering has gone. I may even try to get the ABS working, no light but no ABS. TBH I can live with that.

Ordered the sills, one OEM and the ridiculously priced side I bought from www.classiccarpartsandpanels.co.uk. Had the rear quarters patched as they weren't too bad and wings rebuilt and primed ready for paint. Sometimes it's a very bad idea to take your 944 somewhere for a small tidy up but important to know when you're driving a car that's full of filler and now i'll know they're completely rust free and no filler anywhere.

Front right M030 spec disc and caliper fitted. The caliper adaptor orientation took a liitle while to work out. Left hand side should be easier. Backplate needed a little adustment to clear the disc but otherwise it works.

Endoman, what is the wurth stuff you used? I'm due an all round pad change and I'm not spending 40 odd quid a corner on oem shims again. I've tried Bosch anti squeal paste before and it was useless.

Cheers

Stuart

Fitted my new frazerparts hatch pins. My hatch was rattling like a bugger, so I adjust drivers side fine, but the passenger side sheared off, even after taking it all apart and liberal use of plusgas. Ordered some Only944 delrin bushes to help aswell....as I've currently stuffed some bit of latex glove in there to assist. The rattle has stopped though.

Just waiting for my Gaz gold rear shocks to arrive now to replace the Konis..... :-)

Its Wurth brake pad anti squeal red and sticky spray can. The Pagid yellows used to squeal like a stuck pig. I could relieve it for a while if I blasted the pad area with a power spray. The brake dust produced after a track day was horrendous and very difficult to shift off the wheels if left for too long. Bilberry is pretty good at shifting it but if left it would start to go rusty with the iron off the disc.
The Pagid yellows work very well but I'm going to try Textars with the M030 set up first then perhaps Ferodo or PFC. Just finished the brakes today and they feel very good on the road so far. Balance is good, pulls up straight with no nose dive. Will try a bit harder when they are bedded in.
