Hi All,
New to the site and looking for some friendly help, seems a good place to start.
I will be taking on the replacement of both my rear wheel bearings on my 924 4 stud set up.
Struggling on finding exact wheel bearing sizes. Done the usual rounds on PET which looks to show 5 stud set up, and spoken with a couple of parts providers who are also struggling to get exact fit and cant guarantee by reg number.
Any pointers on good suppliers great appreciated and also any write ups or things to look out for when changing the 924 rear wheel bearings very welcome.

Hi

I did mine a few months ago (1982 2.0 n/a 924) and its the same kit as used in a beelte! The kit I bought isnt available at the moment but this is the same:

The jobs not to bad. You'll need a large 32mm (might be 36mm, cant remember) socket to remove the rear nut, loosen off the pads through the inspection holes, remove the drum then 4 13mm bolts to see the outer bearing. For the inner bearing remove the drive shaft which is a good time to repack the CV joints then remove the stub axle to get access to the c-clip then remove the inner bearing. Pack loads of grease in the bearings and re-assemble :-)

So I could go to local parts dealer and ask for a Beetle Bearing which might be easier for me to source based on current conversations with parts dealers.
Did you need any specialist tools for getting the bearings out and in?
I do have a bearing tool kit just in case ;)

from looking at pet the bearings are the same for 4 stud and 5 stud

its only the hub or drum thats different

113 501 277 B Outer
113 501 283 Inner

google around i found some for under £10 each.

If you have the sizes your local bearing shop should be your first call.

Look to have found a couple of suppliers, surprising that they are no 100% confident of sizes.
Do you know of any specialist tools needed for the job other than a bearing tool kit?

I managed to do mine without any special tools.

- As mentioned big socket for the hub nut and potentially something to extend it with to jump on as its done up crazy tight.
- Long screwdriver to wind the pads back
- I managed to grab the outer bearing using big pair of grips and turned it\pulled it at the same time to wiggle it out
- Inner bearing needs CV joint bolts removing which are 6 spline (I think?) so need the correct tool to prevent rounding them off
- pliers to remove the inner c-clip
- I managed to drive out the inner bearing using a mis match of tools.

Think thats it?? If you're handy with working on the car you should be ok and if you've had the drums off\adjusted the rear brakes\cv joints off in the past its a load easier!!

p.s. might be easier to order a kit from a supplier such as http://www.frazerpart.com/acatalog/924- ... ml#SID=229 instead of taking a gamble with other suppliers

Perfect thanks russmw
I just did the gear shift replacement using parts from Frazerparts so seems a good bet for the bearings too.
Will take pictures as i complete the bearings, always seems to be helpful for others.
