I think we've got our 1st spammer you mods!? (fayruzina) I think it might be good idea to put an easy to find link to the forum rules at the top of the page, don't you?

Can I also be cheeky and request to become a mod myself?

These posts are done automatically, so rules will not alter that.

you should be able to change the settings before a new user can post.

I have also noticed that there are a few new users that look suspect.
Check their www addresses for anything pharmaceutical or sex relatated.

once the spammers programs work out that the forum is there, you'll start to get them by the dozen each day

Sadly we also use PHPBB on a forum that i help with, I am trying to get the owner to change it

A couple of tips

The visual confirmation code is in block letters, there is an add on that makes these the hard to read, differnt style and size letters. I'm not sure how to change this but some PHPBB forums use it.

The automated spam programs scan the page for the letters and find these harder to recognise (so do I )

in the General Configuration Page
Set the Enable Account Activation to Admin

Sorry Jason, they ain't spamming me through e-mail. I mean they are putting spam posts on the site. (I don't know what else to call them). Basically, Pic's/links/ad's to Porn sites.

Kev try to ignore them, they are there on most forum memberlists, if they show a Russian, African or Middle East Location or a non sensical log in name (for a car site) and no posts, just ignore and forget them and let admin clean them up however often a sweep is done.

any chance of anyone deleting all the stupid "members" who are just links to medicine and porn please?/ It doesnt look like we maintain the site ! I know jim has worked his butt off with it so i dont mean we dont look after it i just mean all the stupid names like "lite teensex" etc are not the nicest ! give me the ability and I will do it !

checking the members lists there are some dodgy names, especially from across the pond, (apologies to genuine members) and a few from some made up places
