My 944 S2 (MY91) currently has a body coloured (red) bridge spoiler. I've been told it should be satin black. Certainly looking around at images of bridge spoilers on the web it seems they were mostly black, but some body coloured ones do exist. There is nothing on the options code sticker I can see that is related to the spoiler colour, and it certainly has been painted at some point (previous owner told me it had been refurbed but that it was always red in his keeping).

Should all 944 bridge spoilers be black? Were body coloured spoilers offered on 944s and was it an option or standard at any point? How can I be sure what colour it should be?

I have to say I do rather like the matching spoiler but if it was originally black then I'll most likely change it back.

As far as I am aware the tailgate spoilers were all black and the 968 bridge spoilers were body coloured but I do understand that the last production S2s had a body coloured bridge spoiler not sure if it was an option or standard. They do seem quite rare. Porscheapart (now 9apart) had one for sale quite a while ago iirc.

Thanks Endoman. I wonder if a build sheet from Porsche would tell me what colour it was originally. I think I'll probably keep it red unless I know for sure it was originally black.

ad one back in the day, body colour was correct for later cars,.

I do believe the colour code on the 968 was an option on later cars all the 92 cars I have seen have been rally black

But what do I know

I salvaged this one to use myself, when stripped to be painted it seemed to be the original paint, I believe it was a "J" reg

It's interesting that there's no consensus on this. It seems as though Porsche were changing things quite frequently towards the end of production and then the end of sales too. Clearly they were trying to do whatever they could to shift the cars before 968 came along, and also maybe to bring in elements of 968 production. Possibly it made a difference which OPC you went to as to what you got? Mine was from Newcastle I think.

Anyway, based on what I've been told here and my preference for the car, I'll keep it red unless the body shop can find clear evidence that it was originally black.

92 on a J here...

Bridge spoiler...colour coded to Maritime blue...bought the car like it...no idea if it had been resprayed....

My '89 Turbo came with a colour coded Red spoiler. I've just had the car repainted and I spent a long while deciding whether Black or Red was the way to go. After looking at lots of photos I went with the Red and it looks great.

89 turbos came with a rubber spoiler. Got a bridge spoiler for 90 year. Black, not colour coded.

90 model S2 had rubber spoiler. 91 model saw the bridge spoiler introduced. Not sure if they were colour coded or not. Most seem colour coded.

Your car must have inherited it's coded bridge spoiler at some point. Much nicer tho IMO!
