Me again, trying to get everything sorted for the mot next month and the horns not worked for 8 months so needs sorting. Ordered new hi and low horns off ebay and cut the old one off and un bolted.

Fitted spade connectors to the 2 horn wires and connected to one of the horns. Doesn't seem to be working though?

Any ideas? I can hear a relay click from the drivers seat when the button is depressed. Am I missing something? I thought it'd be as simple as connecting up the existing wires.

I guess you need to know if you have a circuit when the horn push is pressed - the relay may be opening one or could be sticking... You never know, the old horn might have been fine and the fault elsewhere, sounds likely anyway. Try putting a bulb across the two wires or better still a circuit tester if you have one.

Cheers Rob

Have you checked the fuse?

Would I hear the click if the fuse had gone? The old horn was knackered so needed replacing but guess fuse could have gone too.

Which is the horn fuse?

Ive had exactly the same problem and symtoms previously.
I replaced both horns and I also made sure the horn steering wheel connections were good as I have a momo steering wheel with button.
I then put in a separate button underneath the steering column and my horn worked......intermittently
I haven't looked further yet.

Both horns I thought there was only one :|

When i press the horn i hear a click (which is the relay?)

The horn that I know about (lhs below the windscreen) looked done for so i got a new one and connected it up . Still not working? still the same click from the relay . Is the fuse the next thing to change?

You need to be methodical and work through the problem. Do you get a voltage across the horn connections when you press the horn button? If not then why not? Is the earth good (most likely cause of failure)? If so then there is a break in the circuit somewhere. Does the switch work? Etc etc etc.

Work through a sequence like that and you'll be horny in no time at all!

The horn below the windscreen is the factory alarm horn, the pair of horns are located under the near side bumper on my 968.... :D

Yep, under the nearside front apron on a 944 (Square dash).
Mine were just hanging on by a thread of wire - totally rusted......Still made a noise though!

Although your horn units could be failed, I would suggest two options before you grovel under your car!

1. The copper ring connectors to the steering wheel/steering column are dusty/grimy ie: not making a good contact -
2. The pin connectors within the steering pad (ie horn push) are loose - ie: a weak contact -

Both are worth a look and easily checked with simple tools.

Thanks for the input . But is it safe to assume that my switch is ok given the click from the relay?

So located the 2 horns ....The 1 mounted lower looked ok i could just about see part of the 2nd one above as i reached up to feel my way around to see if it was connected i put my thumb straight through it as it was so corroded . That explains that then ?

Ill replace the fubar'd one at the weekend and see if that works.

Good job done!

I had to do the same with mine. Twin horns from the local 'Halfords'...
