did the S2 use the rubber damper thing in the factory original clutch, or was it a proper metal spring jobby?

Lots of debate on this one. Answers are either or really

Mine had a rubber centred clutch when I removed it from my S2.

I was told the S2 clutch doesnt have a rubber doughnut...but the 2.5 clutch does. The 2.5 clutch does fit the S2 though...

I've been told on many occasions the S2 did not have the rubber donut OEM.

S2 had the rubber centre. My original one lasted 201000 miles before I changed it. It hadn't failed, but I knew it needed doing.

My S2 clutch had the rubber centre. I assume that was the original, but can't be certain.

I have a friend who is having her 944Cab clutch replaced at our local OPC - the wear tolerance thru' the inspection portal is 24mm, so well within spec. of 18-36mm. The culprit seems the breakdown of the rubber clutch centre plate, which I am presuming is there as a 'suspension' buffer along the torque tube? If this is then deforming, the release bearing is not active against the centre plate...

You could argue that the rubber clutch is an old fashioned dual mass flywheel, which is what they did on the 968 :).
