Sent off for a certificate of authenticity and it arrived back today with some new info on it. Whilst I knew of a couple the rare options - cruise control and air con. I'm very happy to see a factory option LSD. Not wanting to assume anything, is there any way of physically way identifying it on the car ( like a code printed somewhere).
Would having an LSD add valve to the car?
I was flirting with changing for a 996 c4s, but I do love my 944 cab. It feels very special ( am I sad?)

LSD was optional on S2 models, fitted to a few but pretty expensive so not many. From memory the LSD S2 is AOT if you can check the serial which from memory is on top of the box on the flange which would be the bellhousing. I bought & sold one a while ago.

When I bought my car I got it home and reviewed the options codes and found it had a factory fitted LSD. Option code 220.

The garage confirmed it by rolling one rear wheel when it was up on the ramp. The other wheel rolled in the same direction.

Rather a bonus. I wonder how many Lux's have a factory fitted LSD.

Hi :)

As said... easy to check for LSD...

Jack up back of car (both wheels OFF ground)

Car in neutral...

Hand brake OFF ...lol

Spin ONE rear wheel....

IF other spins in SAME direction...you HAVE ..lsd

If other spins in OPPOSITE direction... you DONT have LSD...

Interesting about code 220.. same code for a 928 LSD , which I didnt have until I fitted one....

All the best Brett :)

It was interesting to note when I got my certificate that what I had assumed were standard fitments were in fact listed as options. I think this may be due to my car being an early 86 model where most things had to be paid extra for.....
listed as options are:
Electric heated passenger door mirror
central locking
protective side mouldings
rear wiper
leather sport steering wheel
alarm system
air conditioning
sun roof
not waxed

as I said most of this I would have thought standard, it certainly was on later models

Another point of interest is the fact that the car's date of registration is only about 6 weeks after it's completion date

something that would have been nice to have been included in the certificate would be a copy of the original sells invoice, I know it was bought by a lady in Hammersmith, London, and that she owned the car for about 12 years, it was then owned by a guy near Henley for just over one year, he put the personal plate on the car before I bought it, having now owned it for nearly 17 years........

Pete

To check for presence of LSD:

Reverse onto front lawn
Engage 1st gear
Rev to 4,000RPM & sidestep clutch
Look in rear view mirror

2x plumes of grass and soil = LSD
1x plume of grass and soil = open differential

... or the other way is to boot it on a nice greasy roundabout in the middle of the morning rush hour.

If you get over ok then no LSD. If you find yourself facing oncoming traffic without really realising how it happened - LSD!

DAMHIKT.
