944 Cab Window Problem when opening/closing doors

Post by Kennedy »

Hi Guys

I have recently acquired a 1990 944 convertible which has post acquisition developed a problem.

The windows no longer drop that half inch when you open the doors to allow the glass to clear the roof. This worked perfectly when the car was acquired. I have had to change the battery and this is when the issue started.

I have owned other convertibles so am familiar with the idea that there is usually a process to go through following a battery change to set the windows to drop when the door is opened. The only thing I could find online was to drop window and hold the window switch down for 10 seconds and then do the same after raising the window. No change other than this blew the switch.

The only other thing I have done is change the window mechanism on the drivers side, but this was done after the fault occurred.

Love the car, hate having to slam the doors.

Anyone know what I need to do?

Thank you

Microswitch on the handle mechanism ? Just a guess as I fixed a similar problem on a 996. the switch was laying in the bottom of the door.

Hi Chaser,

Thank you for the reply.

Both windows failed together. Is that both switches failed or will the failure of one cause the second to stop working?

Blimey ... didn't know about that - my windows have only ever gone right to the top... and fouled the cover..!

Greggers -

I agree - never heard of that on a Cab! But some models were specd quite nicely - auto hoods etc. - many to the US market. Are there any auto hoods in the UK - would be interesting to know...?

Mine has an electric hood but I've disconnected the link arms and just raise/lower it manually... I find it gives other motorists a bit of a giggle when I have to hop out in the rain at the traffic lights..

Hmmm,

I don't think my windows drop when you open the door - unless I just haven't noticed.

They do drop a couple of inches when you close the roof though.

Had my cab for 3 years and it's never dropped / raised the windows when opening / closing the doors. Judging by how slow the whole window mechanism is, I'd be very surprised if it was designed to do so.

Cheers,
