help!

snapped a stud whilst removing the rear anti roll bar drop link. As always, it was the last nut that was the problem.

Is the stud threaded before I use the larger of my persuaders ?

no its not, it is bolted through the spring plate

must just be a bit stuck then

will give a whack with the larger persuader

They can be very stuck; I had a right mare undoing one of my camber adjusters (the big part of the bolt) when changing my suspension this spring. Access can be tricky so expect to empty the toolbox!.. Not to worry you too much but I had to wait 'till the axle was off the car before undoing one of mine

forgot to mention i had to let the car down on the jack with a breaker bar wedged on the ground and used the weight of the car to undo mine!!!

All in a days work on a slightly rusty older car where everything that's attached, bolted or screwed together is joined by some (not so) invisible magic!

I foresee a date with the old cutting disc and increasingly bigger drill bits!!

get a nut splitter, instead of trying to undo them just split the nut

Hi, just in case you hadn't seen the entire bolt, here is a photo. You can see that it is an eccentric adjuster, so trying to turn the inner nut is not going to work until the outer nut is loosened (the one on the outside of the spring plate). I used a copious amount of heat on mine and that really helped - however as already advised - splitting the outer nut works too!

I've got both outer nuts off, just the threaded centre section is mega stuck. will have a bash at it again tomorrow

Hi Brian, best way to get the bolt out is to put the outer nut back on and thread it until just the top of the stud is flush with the top of the nut, then tap the bolt inwards....this should do it. You cannot use the inner nut as that is trying to turn the eccentric. Soaking in WD or using heat will help as years of corrosion are holding it in place.

so it eventually came loose today !
spent a few day soaking it in penetrating fluid and Rhetts trick with threading the nut back on and giving it a good whack worked a treat

unfortunately the other side bracket didn't want to come off and I ended up with one sheared bolt and the captive nut on the other came loose

drilled out the former but the latter was an excuse to break out the air tools!

on the plus side the anti roll bar came up a treat with a blast from a wire cup brush and some anti rust primer
