Went down to my local dealership to pick up some dealer only parts and I enquired about the mechanics hourly rate. Pleasantly suprised that they consider a 944 a classic and they reduce the rate to £50 per h which is what an independent charged me. They then gave me a tour to the back of the workshop where they had restored a ( what I can only describe as stunning) 944 turbo, red with cream leather. Ready for the 'classic corner' they're setting up.

Yes they do this for anything including 996/986 why they do most of the work on my Boxster.

Don't be sucked in by the hourly rate mumbo-jumbo. Despite treating the car as a "classic", Porsche's "best" quote for doing the clutch on my 944 was a whopping £500 MORE than the next most expensive from a range of independent specialists. :D

Indeed, I would rather go to a proven specialist, who deals with the cars day in and day out. OTOH for servicing etc. it probably is a viable alternative from a convenience POV :).

Bolton OPC did cam cover seals. chain tensioner pad and belts last year. Very reasonable and and quicker than local indie who put me off twice. 10% off parts what's not to like.

Ring Tewkesbury and ask for Phil Sergeant - Phil is the Service Manager, he transferred from Bristol when the new site opened last year. He knows TIPEC well and always gave us a good deal at Bristol.
