In a nutshell, my driving lights don't come on with main beam. I have changed/checked the bulb. Getting the gaurd/cover off was a balls ache!! ONe of the screws had rusted to nearly nothing so I had to cut a slot in it....Anyway, bulb is fine. Fuses are all fine.
The relay that works the driving lights is I think G12 944.615.119.00 ?
Before I try and track one down there's not a switch is there in an 86 oval dash that operates them? I'm a muppet if there is...
Anyway, presuming there isn't one and I need a relay..Where do I get one from?
Is this it? It says for a/c which I haven't got ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-944-9 ... 2edae22cd9

any thoughts?
Thanks
Alex

Hi, for an 86 Oval dash the relay is G12 - The PET shows this part number: 141 951 253 B. Most Porsche breakers will probably have a SH one available, in fact I have probably got one in my 'box of electrical thingies' - but would need to check. Depends if you want a used one or a new one. It is actually a very widely-used part and a compatible new one is probably easily available from eBay too. Funny thing is the wiring diagram shows a dual-contact (5 spade) relay at that location, but I just checked my 944, and it has a type 53 single-contact 4 spade relay in G12...Hmm. Best you double-check how many spades your G12 actually has.

You're right, there is no switch on the dash for the driving lights...

Hope that helps..oh, not too sure if your eBay link relay is the right one, but it could be.. :?

Update - Looking further along the wiring diagram it seems that the 5 spade relay was used only in the US, so yours should be a standard 4 spade type 53. Here is a link to a new one on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-924-928-944-964-968-993-BOXSTER-NO-53-MULTI-PURPOSE-RELAY-141951253B-/290841186169?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b77c4f79

Thats brilliant thanks. I'd rather go with a new one. The ebay one has got to be worth a go for £8. and if it works....let there be light (s) ! I'll try and report back. I can always get a used one if it doesn't work..

Do you mean the lights in the front spoiler? My 89 has a switch on the dash next to the rear fog lights for them.

The lights in the spoiler are the optional fog lights, the lights we are concerned with are the driving lights in the bumper. The switch you have next to the rear fog switch is for the front fogs. The driving lights did not have a separate switch as standard, there was simply a feed to relay G12. Earlier cars and 924s did have a switch though - on the centre console.

Ah yes I thought I was getting confused!

In response to OP I assume you have tried a multi-meter on the connections and confirmed there is no voltage there when the lights are on each setting.

That would probably be the wise thing to do, but, I was given a multi meter for Christmas and am not sure how to work it or where I would test for voltage.i.e.; the bulb end or the relay end or even how. So it will get a new relay :-)
Took me a while to work out the switch for fog lights!

I would test the wiring connection at the bulb end first. If that is getting power, you know the relay is working. If it is not getting power then work your way back down the circuit

Hi, following this link and others with electrical faults -

Easiest & simplest way of checking for power + earth supply is by using a PROBE TESTER £15 from fleebay (sealy).

Connect to your battery if led goes 'red' (it's live), 'green' (it's earth). You need both to make anything work !
Easy to see which is missing !

You can also power up components (safety trip built in)!

Completely foolproof.

It is the first thing I reach for (after a brew) with anything electrical.

DO NOT USE ON AIRBAGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for reference, that relay worked a treat. Cheap solution too. Thanks.
