Hi, the o/s door mirror on my 944 has gone floppy, I turn it in to the window as our street is a bit tight, turned it in on Sunday and it went floppy, no nasty noises, just went a bit limp. . . .HELP !

If you push your mirror fully forward you'll see a small hole in the top of the mounting - inside this is the long allen screw that tightens the mount onto the door. If you're lucky you might be able to re-tighten it, or undo it to be able to remove the mirror and see what the problem is. I wasn't lucky.. :|

FYI (on mine at least) the allen screw/bolt is a self drilling/tapping item that goes into a captive cylindrical aluminium 'nut' (a bit like an MFI fitting if you know what mean... and that's what pulls everything tight onto the door - however, if the bolt/screw is corroded into the aluminium it is a bast@rd to get loose as there's quite a lot of thread area for the inevitable corrosion to grip the fixing.

Hope your luck is better than mine!

Greg

The base was fine, it was the head that was floppy, the threads in the head where the hollow bolt and spring screw into have stripped/corroded, I just shortened the spring a coil so the threads go further in has sorted it for now. . . . but somebody has chopped the wires and joined them with bullet connectors, but not left enough wire so I could pull them through the hole in the door to disconnect them. So the mirror isn't adjustable , but I,m putting a door on that side next month when its in for paint so I can sort it then.
