Has yours got a load deck/wheel well and original type rear suspension Pat?
Yes, well the wheel well has been modified and now houses the fuel system (surge tank, pumps, filters, Ethanol % sensor. Rear suspension is still trailing arm but I have a modified replacement for the torsion bar carrier which raises the pickup points a bit. My intention is to change to a more contemporary setup but I understand where Nick is coming from too.

Im not to keen on using the 911 rear supension. Although it will work better I want to try keep the car based on 924 running gear. If anything is changed it will be the engine but again I would prefer to keep it original.

Made some progress on front end fabrication work. Have made removable tubular front end and 951 intercooler is mounted in place. Next job is to hang the 951 ally rad in place. Whole front end is removable in 5 mins for ease of working on the car and makes engine install and remove very easy.
That sounds awesome Nick! Great idea. :D

will certainly make any future work much easier! will post some pics up soon once i have made a bit more progress and got everything in place.

looking forward to getting the new front end panels as well!

also started installing tubes in the sills which will enable a set of stands to slot into place quickly and securely, again designed to make working on the car quick and easy

yes! they allow the car to be jacked up easily for low cars (i cant easily get a jack under the sills!), and stops the sills getting crushed. you can jack the car up easily by pushing an adapter into the tube and jacking the car up, then i will fabricate a set of stands that will push into the tubes and the car can sit nice and high and very secure.

mainly used on rally cars, for working on the cars during service, i used to install many of these into mk1 and mk2 escort rally cars as part of the standard rework, very useful!

(explanation for those that may not know what they are and the benefits of installing them)

heres a pic of some i installed in an impreza recently.

Is this one going the same way Nick? I suspected that it would because work always comes in when people can see the new season...

progress has come to a halt for the minute, as work has gone mental!

have been buying parts though, and hoping to start making a bit more progress soon, have arranged to have the engine bay all sand blasted at the same time as having my mk1 escort shell done.

seeing marks progress has made me really want to get on and spend some time on this, problem is, I have none atm lol

managed to get a rear cage all bent/tacked up aswell as bending the front legs up. was doing a customer cage in a 944, so made x2 of everything. got x rear diagonal, harness tubes, b brace, and supports from rear leg back to main hoop. cage extends to the rear chassis rails as this gives a much better footprint and makes space for proper harness bars at the right level and nice large rear section, with preferable rear leg angles, rather than the usual small footprint rear cages that mount on the wheel arches and give a very steep rear leg angle along with very acute x diagonal angles.

will get some pics up once start tacking it all in place in the shell

planning a workshop move start of september, into much bigger unit, which should allow working on this to be much easier and more frequent as its currently wedged in the corner and not easy to work on!

regards
nick

Sorry for delay been manic. Managed to get a few bits done in the eves over last few weeks. Shell is coming along slowly.

New parts all turn up tommorrow!

All traces of the old weld in cage have now been cut out so we have a blank canvas to start with to create a really nice cage.

I did fabricate a cds cage kit to go in this but I will put this into another shell I have. Have decided to keep weight to absolute minimum will fabricate a new t45 cage for this car.
