At the mo I'm using my 996 for commuting to work
2 miles in traffic
the car is not getting up to temp in this time
Is this a bad idea for my engine ?
I do take it out for longer blast as well durring the week
Short trips ?

That kind of journey is not ideal for any car.
As long as you are giving it a good run regularly and keeping the battery charged your 996 should be fine.
