Twang Noise..

Post by kingroon »

Okay, this sounds weird.. But.. When I pull away with a bit of Gusto, there is a weird twanging noise, like the sound a car aerial makes when flexed & released.. Know what I mean?

I can't work out where it is coming from, but sounds more front than rear.. And seems to happen when I'm turning as I pull away e.g. from a T Junction or Roundabout..

Any ideas?

Could be a road spring either reseating itself or possibly broken.

I recently had the Camber/Canter/Geo SetUp done, so the reseating would make sense.. He did check out the springs [H&R Lowering Springs] and didn't report anything wrong.. Might give him a call and see if he'll check it out..?

Just seen this topic. I had the same noise which I also described as an aerial being twanged against a metal panel. problem in my case was one front top mount was frozen so that that it would not rotate which I turned a corner at very low speed so that tensions built up in the spring. When the spring released you got the twang noise.

The solution was to take the top mount apart and reassemble. Noise has gone and I am happy. In my case the work was done under warranty as the car was new to me so i didn't pay quite enough attention to what was actually done.

Funny thing.. The Twang started again.. So I dropped my car at the Mech this morning and during the lift to the Train Station he suggested exactly that.. So he's going to investigate :)
