After looking at all the cool pics in this section I've got the 944 bug again! (had a 944S about 12 years ago but sold it to get a 911)

Anyway, picked this up today, viewtopic.php?f=35&t=15166
Didn't miss a beat on the way home (160 miles), plenty of jobs to do but it's a very early car with some features that were unique to these early models. Date of First Registration 05 05 1982 anyone got an older one?

This is the inspiration,

Will try to get some pics up tomorrow.

I have just picked a 84 model in the same colour that needs work but the body is great. I also have an 86 model that the body looks much better at first glance but needs major welding and fabrication in the sills and rear quarter area but has a great interior unlike the early car which is tatty inside but has really grown on me.

Glad she got you home ok :)

Keep us posted, I think it'll be a special car once restored.

Cheers Chris, weather permitting, a good clean and fit the pinstripe interior I have here tomorrow. Goes well with my '79 928! 1982 944 brochure was waiting for me when I got home, so will be handy for reference. Shows the early scripted door cards etc.

Some pics from the brochure,

If you look at the lower left of this pic you can just see the E of the Porsche script door card.
I'm missing the carpet shown around the base of the gear stick.
Anyone know what model Blaupunkt that is?

Fuched! (mine is on cookie cutters)

Will start making a list of bits I need tomorrow.

Well done saving another squaredash. I have a late 83 produced (Nov 23 stamped on door cards and coolant hoses) Jan 1984 registered car that is a real joy to drive.

Good luck with the resto!

regards

Jon

My square dash interior needs work but is really growing on me in a retro way, I am even loving the browns and the beige in it!!! must be showing my age.

I really like the squaredash look, its really 70's retro and adds to the 'Brett Sinclair ' international playboy image, wafting across europe to that exclusive sunspot in the alps/Monaco/Italy with Matt Munro adding a melodic backdrop.....ok so I'm getting carried away here and I'm never likely to own an Aston DBS (actually I did breifly in the 70's but that's another story) or Ferrari Dino......but i've just solo'd the 944 across to Germany and back and it was brilliantly retro....and i did have Matt Munro playing in the background :D

This might qualify as a historic entrant under current rules. Werent they talking about including up to 1986 cars?

Had I know that this car was for sale then Id certainly have bought it. I have a set of light grey / grey-beige leather series two seats from an '86 Turbo and a perfect dash that would have perked it up nicely...

The new Cat 4 historic rally category is fine for this car.

Cat 1 - pre December 31st 1967
Cat 2 - Jan 1st 1968 - Dec 31st 1974
Cat 3 - Jan 1st 1975 - Dec 31st 1981
Cat 4 - Jan 1st 1982 - Dec 31st 1986

These are all MANUFACTURED dates, not registered, so worth checking VIN plates and working it out.

It was on here for 7 months! I can't belive nobody bought it considering it's potentially the oldest 944 on the road?

How can I check when it was manufactured?
