I had the engine mounts done at the weekend. My car had been vibrating on idle since I bought it in July, and it had all the signs of engine mount failure (idle vibration, vibration disappearing at >1500 rpm etc).

I got two new later mounts - the hydraulic Turbo ones - from Promax Sport at a great price of £52.18 per mount, plus the correct bolts. I had the job done on Saturday and here's the totally knackered driver's side mount:

It had collapsed completely and the fluid was leaking out. The passenger's side didn't look too bad, but it was obviously worth having both done together.

What a difference this has made! I highly recommend it to anyone who has the classic signs of engine mount failure.

The drivers side is the hot side so its usually this mount which fails. On a Turbo theyre both hot and its a double pig of a job, :(

They are always an awkward job, especially if they are 20 years old. I'm sure Andy got a good deal on the labour too...

did mine on the turbo a few months back, made a massive difference to the feel of the car, responsiveness, and smoothness... steering rack started making a weird clonking noise afterwards

I have this exact issue too! Did you find out what it was?

Hi, are these promax mounts any good? All my research seems to point to Porsche genuine parts only, or they will fail within a year?

What is everyones experience of them?

The ones Promax have are the hydraulic (best) type - I think these are made for Porsche by Meyle?

Check with Promax before buying if you want to be sure though

I have had to do a couple of free new customer inspections this week on 944's, both S2's and both with shot engine mounts, which if changed will transform the cars. Both these cars have such foobarred mounts that they are not only causing vibration in the cabin and popped up headlights which shake like the car has parkinsons disease, but also causing backlash in when taking up drive or moving into engine braking.. In fact to such an extent that I did also think that both cars might have had bad clutch disks until I checked.

If anyone wants mounts, I can do the proper 944 Hydraulic OEM ones at a good price.
