944 S2 Front Bumper Issue

Post by BalticBlue »

Hi, can someone point me in the right direction with regard to an issue I have with the front bumper of my 944 S2 Cabriolet. As you can see from the attached images on both sides of the bumper there is some flaring which is obviously not correct, on the offside it kinks out at the bottom and on the nearside there is more of a bulging? Now this is issue was present when I bought the car a few months back and as yet I have not had chance to take a closer a look, the bumper has obviously been resprayed at some point as the colour match is not the best, so is it simply a case that the bumper has not been re-attached correctly? If so should I be able to easily rectify, without completely removing? Any ideas? Many thanks

i have 2 s2's and neither have this problem, to fit the splitter on my red one i had to pull the bottom of the bumper out a little to lign up with the splitter, when i remove the splitter it springs back to the original shape.
As yours isn't doing that i suspect accident damage ( speed bump ).
it will be a right pain to get back into the correct shape, and keep it there!
Gentle pressure on the bulge whilst warming with a heat gun may work but may damage the paint.
Nice colour tho

Morning Stuart,

Thanks for the response and the input, I am pretty sure that I will end up having the 944 resprayed (in its original colour) and suppose then will be the time to address the bumper problem.

Cheers

Iv seen this on quite a few 944 / turbo conversions. Think that's mainly Cas that's the best line up they could get they thought nothing more off it.

However I'm sure its correctable. Iv done a n/a turbo front end conversion and got better pannle fittment then my turbo. Iv also added spilters to both cars.

Bumpers are quite flexible, but will take time for the current shape2 fall out.

I would 1st remove the front undertray and take not that its fixed at the factory points.
Leave it off for a week and see if the shape changes

There 3 bolts between wing and bumper, each side plus one where the wheel arch fits
Its also looks like it done up too tight on the top back edge and is missing the front bolt.

Free up these bolts, remove the bumper and see if it will take its own shape again, once off if the shape seems more right, offer up the undertray and see if the mount points line up, they prob won't, and don't on stock correct fitting bumper with the bumper relexed.

The alloy carrier for the front bumper maybe sitting silghtly low causing the rear top corner off the bumper to be pulled up more then it should, adding to the kink in the sides.

The wings have 2 fixing points which can pull and push the flear in wheel arch out, if the wheel arch is pulled in the bumper will be wider then the wheel arch causing a kink as well.

Mine had this. It is caused by parking the batwing on a kerb which pushes the PU out of shape. Hot day & it deforms even more & stays deformed!

Thanks for all your replies and the information they contain, pretty much made up my mind that a full respray will be carried out over the winter months. Will report back once all is finished.
