Hi everyone!

Just thought id introduce myself as ive just become a porsche owner for the first time.

Ive been looking for a replacement for my previous car a 1996 e36 328i coupe recently (i like the older german cars) and saw a nice looking 944 in a auction coming up. Put a bid in and won it!

Its a 1986 944 2.5 lux manual in red, done 125,000 miles and appears in pretty good overall condition. All the electrics seem to work including the digital clock which ive heard usually break.

Does need a repair to the front bumper and drivers front wing + foglight so im on the lookout for replacment parts, any ideas where to look or who to ask?

The minute i got it i looked for some different alloys and won some later type D (i think thats the name?) alloys on ebay which i put on the same day.

Needs some bodywork and a fresh mot but im hoping to have it back on the road in a couple of weeks depending on work.

It's worth checking if the cam belts have been changed, should be done every 48,000 miles or 4 years.

Bert Gear at http://www.partsforporsche.co.uk knows 944s very well and sells quality OEM parts at cheaper than dealer prices. http://www.porsch-apart.co.uk is a huge Porsche Breakers and always good for used and new parts. Don't forget the official dealer network as they are not always as expensive as you may think.

Good to see another 944 on here, very similar to mine. There are a few bumpers and wings on ebay at the moment, you might be able to pick for reasonable money. As yours is a popular colour its probably worth hanging around until red ones turn up and save yourself a fortune on re-spraying. Hope the MOT goes well.

Ive sent elliot at porkaparts a message and am hoping to collect the parts i need today. I tried to ring him yesterday but his phone was turned off.

It looks like the alloys i replaced the other day have the wrong offset and sit a bit under the arches, is there any way i can space then out or replace the hubs from a later model?

Im hoping the wing can be repaired/painted and just replace the bumper, front panel and foglight. The lower splitter will be plastic welded/painted

The damage is fairly typical & most of the bits for the early cars are available on places like E Bay quite cheaply. The front panel is known in Porsche speak as a Badge panel.

Good luck, shouldn't take too much fixing.

You definately need 30mm spacers on the wheels as they are lost inside the arch.

I would think it will be cheaper to find a second hand wing (or a new pattern one for circa £150) as that one will take a lot of beating to get it anywhere near straight before filling and painting

a little pointer, there are 2 drain holes under the rear spoiler on the tailgate, you really need to clear them (looking at the picture) they are more obvious from underneath, when washing i usually give them a blast with the hole from underneath. It's supprising how muck much comes out.

Better still to remove the reservoirs (directly underneath the rear hatch pins) and clean them out as the grease from above tends to trap dirt as rainwater passes through the lock. It is a really quick and simple job and should improve drainage no end. If you don't do this periodically you can end up with water ingress as the reservoir overflows.

Different 'oles Adam, Porsche 952 is talking of those in the spoiler, more like slots really, you're talking of the tailgate catches themselves. Both need sorting I must admit.

With regards to wheelspacers, would it still be safe to drive it with 30mm spacers on as im guessing it will prevent using all of the thread when putting the wheelnuts on?

I'll have a look tommorow morning at the tailgate to see if its blocked, i did notice it took a while for the water to drain away.

Will deffo need longer studs but they'll come with the spacers. 30mm spacers won't be cheap though, you maybe better getting the correct offset wheels.
