Your paintwork improvements are certainly impressive! How much do you charge

You may be disappointed in the lack of after-market mods for a 944. I get the impression that Porsche built them so well that you can't really improve them, whereas something like a Golf or Beetle was never intended to be a performance car, so there are plenty of options to transform it into one.

The turbo engines are very tune-able though, but there are very few gains to be made out of the n/a engines.

all depends how far your paint is down the dull road !!!

for a full level up..
1.chemical strip off all old wax / polish
2.inch by inch claybar clean
3.stg 1 cut compound mop
4.stg 2 refine compound mop
5. steam clean ..
6. polymer paint lock ( auto glym lifeshine )
7.3000 grade wire clean glass and polish..with polylock system after

looking at £250 ...to 300 if very bad with heavy scratches ...lasts for approx 3yrs auto glym claim 5 plus ( hmmm 3 easy)

dale ..... :)

Jaw dropping! Like glass.

So I bought myself a claybar. Is there a technique? I washed the car first, then used the clay wet and kept rinsing and folding. The clay went more grey, but I didn't notice any improvement to the bodywork, and it was very slow progress, like scrubbing a cathedral floor with a toothbrush.

Clay is point less unless you are gonna mop after tbh as all you are. Doing is stripping the paint
Of any polish and debris !!!! Be carfull a little knowledge is a dangerous / costly thing

I totally agree, a little knowledge is dangerous

I fail to see how using a clay bar is pointless, dangerous or costly.

It surely depends on what you want to do and how far you want to go. If the paint is covered in crud your going to need a clay bar to get rid of it. Whatever polish you apply if you haven't used a clay bar first will be pointless as your polish is sat on the crud not on the paint.

You can then use a cleaning compound by hand then apply polish and wax. It will give you a finish, it might not be perfect and will be hard work but it certainly wouldn't be pointless.

Sure you can have the car mopped but you can only do this so many times. :)

i have been and rectified a number of paint jobs where people have set about their pride and joy with out prepping for use of the clay bar 1st ( chemical strip ).....and then clayed a car with just water NOT a suitable float solution...thus resulting in abrasion damage ..

as far as mopping goes yes i agree if you are using cutting compounds BUT things have moved on a bit ,micro burnishing machine compounds actually roll over the scratches and burnish the edges of the defective de lustred areas ..thus softening the edges of the scratches that prevent light refraction ( shine )..and are far more gentle on the paint ..

just trying to prevent people damaging there pride n joy......dale

Could you spell out the steps and products you use in a little more detail? I saw you listed the steps earlier in the thread but now I'm even more confused since the verb "to mop" seems to mean more than just wash with a sponge and warm water!

Excuse my ignorance! :clown:
