Following on from the thread about 944 prices where are Turbo prices going ?, I offered someone £6k for a car that needed £1k spending on it, and despite it being advertised on PH a couple of times since it's still unsold months later as far as I know, this suggests to me I was right about it's value, maybe.

I paid five grand for mine a year ago and consider that an absolute bargain.

If it's a good one I'd agree, good cars that are priced realistically seem to sell quickly, ultimately they are worth what someone is willing to pay.

Pauly,
Which car was it on Pistonheads ? as i was sniffing around a red Turbo S in Portsmouth before I managed to get my old Black one back.
If so did you take a look and what was it like ?
I gave 8k for mine in December, but I know the car and mechanically it is 100% previous owner who bought the car from me spend over a grand on aircon conversion to R134A, 1K on new front Konis, new brakes and pads right round, new belts and tensioners again after getting a Cometic headgasket fitted, the engine was completely rebuilt approx 25k ago.
It needed cosmetic work such as wheel refurb (£280) and some paint (£350) plus my time.
Worth every penny to me :)

No it was another red S, didn't really fancy the colour, but I was ready to have it inspected until myself and the owner had differing opinions about a couple of things, I thought it would have sold though, perhaps I missed something.

I thought the car had a lot going for it, it had most of the toys and a previous owner had spent money on it, the fact it hadn't had belts for 7 years was an issue to me but the seller didn't think it mattered, there were some other things I wasn't happy with but even now I'd still consider buying it if the price was right.

That doesnt look bad at all. It has been advertised once or twice and I always thought it looked like one of the better adverts with all the sensible and necessary things mentioned and addressed. If all is well then a definite bargain but it is a shame in some ways that they are available at that level. It is a 220 model mind not a 250 despite the ad! It depends what mods are done and whether they make the 30bhp difference. And then it is a slippery slope to MAF kits and 3.2 engines.....
Hope you enjoy it.

I'm still looking for one, somebody bought the red car I was interested in, I'm suprised the new owner hasn't made themselves known yet :) .

thanks,

the seller was a real enthusiast and a very nice chap. the car seems to have been extreemly well maintained mechanically. there's no rust on here but the paint is a bit shabby and scuffed in places and the interior is a bit tatty. all these niggles seem to dissapear tho as the rev counter slips past 3000 rpm! :D

the car is fitted with a stainless exhuast system, boost enhancer and the engine has been re-mapped.

as for 3.2 engines....she's providing me with plenty of brown trouser moments as she is for now thanks. takes some getting used to this RWD lark

I thought the service history and the fairly recent clutch change made this car easy to sell.

More than anything I bought my car on condition. I looked for around 6 months to find a nice one at a reasonable price and last year ended up with a Turbo SE for £4500. I saw loads of overpriced cars with knackered cills and rusty front/rear wings. The mechanical side of things concerned me less because I can replace it quite easily if needed, all be it quite expensively in some areas. Fortunately the only thing it's needed so far is a wastegate and the handbrake shoes replacing................. touch wood!

They are the one's you want, and with some of the big expenses taken care of recently it should be a good buy. The little trim and paintwork niggles are soon sorted as and when you get time, so just enjoy taking her past 3000rpm - repeatedly

got it booked in to be detialed (machine polished paint correction) by a guy in st annes at the end of the month and will hope fully get the wheels stripped and re-painted around the same time.

took it out for a good spin after work yesterday, must say the handleing is taking some getting used to.overall feels quite heavy and slightly un-responsive? I'm guessing the is because my last car was fwd and on coilovers (VW corrado vr6). couldn't be more different to be honest. NA - turbo, fwd-rwd, race bred susspension-god knows how old set-up!

well a change is as good as a holliday! :P
