Hi Guys, Following a flat battery during this cold spell I thought I would ask...some previous owner has added a 6 v rechargeable SLA battery to a couple of wires near the fuse box on my 966 and taped up the batterry and stuffed it under the carpet. I can imagine it would save things like losing radio code when you disconnected main battery ?? anyway removed I it and it was as dead as the proverbial...so clearly not adding much value. When I get time I need to investigate the wires and what they are connected to etc. but any thoughts ? is this a mod that does soemthing useful if it were a good SLA battery ? 6 v seems a little odd as in a 12 volt car it will get overcharged...if its not charged somehow its useless anyway...Thanks ..... |

This might be an attempt to supply a voltage to the electric bonnet release in case the car's battery goes flat. With a flat battery, you can't open the bonnet to change it on the early 996 without either releasing it by hand if you have arms like Mr Tickle or by putting an independant supply onto the fuse in question. Charging a 6V battery with a 12V supply might be a good way to set your on fire. ![]() |

Hi ![]() It was NOT being charged by your charging system...it would have caused a fire at the very least... I would guess the previous owner used it to hold ECU or radio settings while main battery was disconnected... All the best Brett ![]() |
