Post subject:  996 Brakes ?
I have noticed recently that I have slightly more brake pedal travel than I used to get. Previously I could brake with the left side of my foot and blip the throttle with the right. Now the brake pedal is almost level with the throttle so its become more difficult. The actual power of the brakes seem about the same but with slightly more travel. There is still around 50% of the pads left and the disk are still quite good, I had them checked.

Any ideas on how I can restore the pedal position.

Sometime a light brake bleeding helps, doesn't need to be a massive amount from each calliper just enough to get fresh fluid in there.

How long ago was the fluid changed? It will want changing at least every 4 years.

Not sure, It had a 48k service at an OPC, but I gether that does not automatically mean the fluid was changed.

If it's not noted in the service book, it very likely wasn't done.

Porsche fluid change is every 2 years - iadditional cost to any service, currentlyabout £160 for the fluid change. Check service book and invoices, it should be listed separately.

I have just checked back through the paperwork I have, the Break fluid was changed in Nov 08 so not to long ago. Any Ideas?

try the most obvious (and cheapest..!) first;
bleed or renew the brake fluid, irrespective of what the service book states

Sean I have had a look at ProMax Motorsport and quite like the set up, I have not heard of Fernsport. Do you use them?

Check the inner faces of all discs - you might be shocked by the state of them if the car is used irregularly or is kept outside int he wet !

Well thought I would drop a quick note. I had the brake fluid changed for Blue dot, and new pads fitted and the brakes feel great. Just need to try them on a Trackday to check they stay that way. Thanks again for all the advice.
