Post subject:  Sports Exhaust?

I was wondering if any one can recommend a sport exhausts for a 996 facelift 3.6. I am new to the 911 world and have not even picked my car up yet but I think they sound great. The idea of being able to switch the sports note on and off is quite appealing Can you just put them on or do you have to modify the engine tune in any way? TIA.

I'm toying with getting one myself, but not sure I can justify it in the current economic climate. As far as I'm aware the choice of sports exhaust is not extensive (in terms of price and performance) unless you're planning on assembling the components yourself. The Porsche sport exhaust is the switchable one (some others are not) and that will set you back around £1400 supplied and fitted. A standard exhaust is around £900. You could probably get an OEM one for slightly less - not running the wiring up to the dashboard is probably an hours labour saved. On the question of tuning, you don't need any further modifications to have the exhaust ready. In fact I'm reliably informed, there's not much more to be gotten from the 996 normally aspirated engine (if yours is a pre 2000 model is it?), so choose any modifications carefully. I get my advice from Paragon who sell performance parts - if they tell me parts are a waste of money, then they're probably right.
