Hi there,

I have a 997.1 and had the 'coolant warning' flash up on my dash the other day.

I left the car for half an hour or so and came back to see coolant leaking on the floor from these two hoses picture below.

A couple of questions please before I attack it:
1) - How much coolant am I going to need to catch when I remove the hoses?
2) - Would you suggest replacing the hoses and the clips or just the hoses?
3) - Suggested tool to remove the OEM clips?
4) - Assume this a simple DIY job with the rear of the car jacked up?

I hate those clamps - they’re all over my Saab but not used on my 1991 Porsche! To release them I find these long reach pliers best, as you can position the jaws on the clamp without needing to find room/suitable angle to operate the tool, which can be problem when the clamp release is at end of the pliers themselves.

In their favour, they are designed to apply even clamping force around circumference, and you can't over-clamp them (people often do that with jubilee-type clips). The problem is needing the right tool (or big enough pliers), getting access to them with tool in place, and last but not least sometimes finding you need three hands to move the clamp back from fitting once compressed. I imagine accountants like them!

Even and constant pressure is the key

I have changed to Mikalor clips in most places
