I had a very similar problem with one of my 996's. It turned out to be the crank position sensor breaking down when hot. Even if your's looks new, you could eliminate it by removing it, measuring it's resistance while heating it up with a heat gun and seeing if the resistance goes mental as mine did. Hope this helps
