I have a re-occurring problem with a 2005 911 c2.

The temp failure indicator comes up and the water temperature shows zero with a red flashing light over the dial. The oil temperature reads ok, if not a little low 60-70. It started intermittently and occasionally it goes off in heavy traffic for a while. Everything then reads at normal temperature. Its fine for abou 10 miles then on my way back home about 20miles into the journey it beeps and gives the same issue. I had the sensor replaced yesterday and it seemed to have solved it. The dial was dead centre, but then 20 miles into the journey on the open road it went again arrrrrrrrrrgh

Can anyone help as I've seen suggestions its the ECU, the instrument cluster, loose connections or some sort of valve staying open??

With annoying electrical faults its always worth checking the terminals on your battery haven't come loose or even that the battery is fully charged/holding a charge. Most garages will do a drop test on your battery for free.

Check the simple things first :D

Other than that check your ECU is dry? Not sure where it is on a 997?

The only sure way to determine what's going on is to connect it up to a diagnostic tester. That will lead you to the route cause of the issue. I'm surprised that who ever changed your sensor didn't either test it first or do a diag test for you, as the sensors aren't cheap, especially if it's working!
