Post subject: | Possibly put in too much oil on top up- Help. |
Hello team, I was just looking for either advice, or some one to tell me its going to be fine, my C2S told me to check the engine oil which I did and it was in the bottom section flashing, so I thought better give it a top up. I bought a litre of castrol 5w40 because that is what Jaz suggested I use, and I added 250ml checked the oil again still bottom, added another 250, still nothing, added another 250 to put in a total of about 800ml I would guess of oil. One more check and the gauge read half way between the two main marks. So I thought perfect. (i did this all in a tescos car park because my drive is on a slope so the engine was hot if that makes a difference). Then I drove home about 5 minutes and just before I pulled into the drive I did one last check of the oil (on the flat obviously) and now all the bars are full. Should I be worried that I have over filled it? any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated. - a technical noobie. |

If the bars are showing full with a hot engine I would say that it is overfilled. My 996 shows full when it is cold and 1 bar below when warm. |

My suggestion would be to go out and give it a right good thrashing (all within the law of course) ![]() Or, work out where the last lot of oil went, did it burn it or did it leak it ![]() First option would be more fun ![]() Hope this helps |

I think you'll be OK. From memory each division on the electronic dipstick represents 250mls or thereabouts, and I think your supposed to top up from a hot engine. |
