So car in garage, phone call from garage.
Garage: Do you have a spare Key
Me: Yes, somewhere
Garage: can you get it to us as the engine is running and the car has deadlocked itself
me: what!!!!! The car has locked itself with the engine running (laughter erupts from my work colleagues)......
Ok you get the drift, but after calling my wife to get her to go home find the keys and take it to the garage crisis averted. Door opened (via key as remote did not work).
So what the hell happened? I have never known a car lock itself while the engine is running, is this a 996/911/Porsche feature? Can I stop it? Is this an electrical gremlin? Is there some secret deadlock switch in the engine compartment (as engine lid was open at the time)?
I can now see the funny side – as I imagine most of you will, but what happened?
Before anyone suggest it – yes tell the garage to leave the windows open, and the rest of you make sure when you book your car into a garage don’t rely on them keeping a record of your number from last time, give it to them again and any other possible number you may be on so they can get you quickly!
I reserve the right to copy my forum post and use in any other forums/media/publication/social media etc, etc - as it is an amusing story and I might as well gets some mileage out of it!
