A few weeks ago I noticed a leak on one of the front near side radiators close to the front wheel. Thought it was caused through maybe a stone entering the massive air grilles on the front.

I know I’d asked on this forum previously about the grille protection mesh guards, but you know how it is, if you don’t do it at that moment it doesn’t get done, too much other shit to get done, even more so when you’re retired, don’t believe me then try it, it’s great though!!

Anyway I digress.

I phoned Leicester OPC to have them take a look, as I have the full warranty package with them. Told them the story, asked about ‘covered under warranty’ then they came back saying ‘if it’s not caused by stone damage you’ll be OK’ Bring the car over and we’ll take a look for you.

The car went in Thursday, spoke to the Service Supervisor about the protection grilles. He mentions Porsche don’t endorse the fitment of these as they say it could cause an air flow restriction and would invalidate any warranty claim. So I was really glad I’d not fitted them. But thought their reasoning was flawed as a GT3RS in the showroom had them fitted.

They’d give me a call as soon as they had established the issue and decided on the way the work was going to go, warranty or not. A few hours later the call came, and all was good, repair was covered, but they needed to order more parts so needed the car for another day.

phoned them midday Friday,
is the car ready then?
it will be around 3.00pm,
what’s taken you so long?
well, we’ve changed two A/C condensers + the lines, two radiator hoses, one of the horns and the cigar lighter.
shit!

Spoke to them again about the grilles and they were OK if I or I had them fitted provided the car came back to Leicester for warranty work, however they pointed out that with Porsche Assist the car would go back to the nearest OPC and they couldn’t influence that OPC’s decision on warranty liability.

So I guess I’m back to square one, but this time I’ll not need to talk with my bank manager, no, no, that was 40 yrs ago, I mean apply on the internet for a loan.

As you can imagine I’m well pleased with the result, and the guys at Leicester are great.

Hope I’ve not sent you to sleep reading all this stuff!!

I think an OPC warranty is the only way to go if you can get it. One of the guys up here has had £8,000 worth of work on his Turbo in the last 12 months.

Glad yours is sorted. :D

The majority of Turbo owners I know have the grille fitted- many by OPC as you say.
Mine has been in for a radiator replacement recently again and has always (luckily) been a warranty job.
