I'd love to 'upgrade' to a 996, but those hideous headlamp extensions (don't pretend you don't know what I mean  ) just put me off too much... :(

I'm thinking of, perhaps, a vinyl stick-on cover in body colour to go around the bottom of the main light with cut-out(s) for the spot light and indicator...

Does such a thing exist, or am I just dreaming? Should I get a 997 instead? Or a Cayman...?

There's a guy on my Instagram and he's got a black 996 c4s. He's covered the headlights in black vinyl like laminx and cut the oval part of the headlight out. Looks pretty smart in pictures! I'll try post one up. His name is fingerscrossed4morrow if you wanna search him.

like I said above they are the GT1 light so why would anyone want to change them?

All down to personal preference of course and mine is that those pictured at 911 box look absolutely disgusting.

Am I the only person who thinks that black 996 has been made to look like a old Toyota Supra with those headlight covers?

Yup know what you mean Jon. Personally I don't mind the headlights, they are the same as on the Boxster, sitting in the driving seat I don't see 'em!

Personally, I do not mind the 996 and Boxster pre 2005 lights.

However, I do not like the pre face-lifted ones with the orange indicators. Especially when they are fitted to one of my Boxsters, which I would much rather had the clear front indicators, but I refuse to pay for new lights just for the looks... But I do keep coming close!

So if someone here has the later clear front lights, and is about to trade their car in, let me know, I will probably make you an offer on them and supply some orange indicators for you to substitute! lol

Jm garage,

You just remove the amber plastic from inside http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=577616&sid=920f96620364a4900caa4c35f82f246d

Hiya thirteeneast, the headlight/indicators Jon is refering to are the full orange outer ones on the early Boxsters. I wish something could be done with them but unfortunately it can't. :(

Early 996 and Boxster's have a dyed plastic section of lense which is all orange and can not be removed.

The post on 911uk is regarding taking out the orange diffuser/reflector assembly on the later cars which what is known as the clear indicator version, so you can can use orange bulbs or silvered orange bulbs, which do not need the diffuser.

Yes,

Thats what the link is refearing too.

The newer clear lenses still have an amber section behind that needs removing if you wish to use chrome /amber flash bulbs otherwise there no point as they still look amber even though they are clear on the outside.

But in any case either clear or amber looks better than the stupid ones pictured above LOL
