Targa woe's

Just bought a stunning 1985 turbo bodied 3.2 Carrera. I set out to buy with 3 rules. No Red, no Targa, G50 box.
I broke all three when I saw and drove this thing and i am still smiling every time i drive it.
I asked the previous owner if the roof leaked but he advised with all honesty that he had not taken it out in the rain for the last 8 years so could not tell me. The interior was bone dry so I did not argue.
Inspected the roof (new cover) and the roof seals (perfect) so was confident of a dry interior when i did use it in the rain because it is going to be used every day. To be extra sure I plastered the sealing area with vasaline to keep out the smallest of drips.
Result, one hell of a down pour and the car is swimming. Its just one part behind the drivers head that is leaking. I have checked the whole area as best i can but cannot find any obvious cause.
Is there a maesto out there who knows how to set the roof correctly so that it does not leak. Whats the secret???
