Yup on the tyre will be a circle with a 4 digit number in it such as 2107 this means manufactured week 21 in 07 I'd be suspicious of anything over 5 years and bin anything over 7.

They'll be as 'ard as nails then, new tyres will make it a handle a lot better as well.

Black ones..... Not so sure on a 911 but Falken 452s seem to work on most things.

Hi :)

I agree with Jim on Falken 452`s ...great tyres in the dry and ok in the wet....

They last well, I usually get around 2 months on my rears lol...(using Nitrous) ...but on a normal Porsche they are fine...

All the best Brett :)

Some pro cyclist used to store tyres for years allowing then to mature. The harder rubber was supposedly more puncture proof. My '92 944 spare is the original and unused.

Alos found this on a website:

' While tyres contain anti-oxidising chemicals to significantly slow down the rate of ageing, they actually need to be in use to slow down the ageing process. In other words, infrequent use and poor storage and can accelerate the ageing process and render them unroadworthy. Low mileage, older cars tend to be most at risk from premature ageing - as motorists assume there is no problem if they can still see plenty of tread.

Tyre ageing is commonly identified by small cracks (crazing) appearing in the sidewall but in most circumstances tread depth can be used as a suitable indication of when tyres should be replaced – as tyre treads generally wear out before the ageing effect becomes a problem. '

Apparently the rubber goes "off" over a certain age.
And there are numbers that indicate the tyres age on the side wall.
Dont know how long they last?

Ive tried a couple of makes, and found that being a tight ass will only cost you in the long run (slide in 2 a wall, due to crap tyres) Buy the best most expensive u can afford.

Pick tyres that suit a rear engined car.
IMO either bridgestone or michelin for normal use.

Iam currently on bridgestone so2,s. There an old tyre design but suit the 911 well.

Would have been the dog's danglies then, still a damn good tyre, GSD3 F1 are on the 944. The Excellence is the replacement for it in some sizes & it continues as the F1 in others, why I don't know.

Which 911 is yours?
Is it a 3.2? If so yes but will need spacers.
