Just wondering if there's any advice on the best places to position the arms on a four point garage lift/trolley jack/axle stands please? My car is a 1974 2.7S.

Dead easy, is this a trick question?
Just behind fronts and infront of the rear wheels, square shaped section on bodywork under car.

Thanks - not a trick question - I have a 944 and there are dire consequnces from using some of the things that look like jacking points

Quite! on anything older than 5-6 years old I'd never use the original jacking points always a suspension or chassis hardpoint.

On the four most corners of the floor, where itn joins the main body. Its at its strongest there. You can also use the torsion bar housings for axle stands.

I used the jacking points on my S2 without any issues, also use them on the Speedster for the annual chasis polish

I never use the jacking points myself. I make sure that the car is jacked on the wishbones or diff . Using any part of the chassis to jack such a heavy 23+ year old car is asking for trouble .
I have watched garages try to jack the car on the cills because their trolley jacks wouldn't go under the cills to the jacking points.
When I had 4x new tyres fitted last month I had to physically lift the car under by wheel arches to enable the grease monkey to get the trolley jack under the car.

Unbelievable. Some people dont deserve to claim they can work on cars. I bought a slim line trolly jack and it slides under quite nicely, and Ive lowered the car. To get the back in the air you can use the centre of the engine case close to the gearbox. Strong as hell. Once its up put axle stands on the torsion tube area or on the spring plate protrusions.

I just grab the wheel arch and lock out my knees, slides under a treat

Got to get me one of those, but I haven't seen a good deal since Costco sold out of lightweight ones a year ago (mind you they have a low access jack now but it must be for racing trucks - I can't physically lift the thing!) Where did you get yours and how much was it (if you don't mind me asking)?

I think I paid about £80 ish for it. Quite light weight too. Would definitely recommend it.
