The recent rain has exposed the poor sealing round the windscreen of my 1985 3.2 Carrera.

Does anybody have any experience of having the screen resealed?

I have never ever been able to seal a car window with any sealant. Alway had to re-fit with new rubber and claimed on the insurance. But worth a try.

I've tried the penetrating sealing stuff, which hasn't worked. So my guess is I need a new rubber seal.

Is this a windscreen specialist job? I don't want to go to one of the outfits like Autoglass if the result is "we can only fit a new screen, sir"

If your screen is leakin its due to a few possible problems, the rubber seal has perrished with age, the car has corroded, or the parts are poor quality (replacment glass is wrong size ect).
To use an aftermarket sealent to "seal" a worn rubber will work, but is more of a bodge up rather than a cure.
To do this proper you have to remove the glass, then refit with vast amounts of "arbomast". This is a flexible black sealent that never cures completely. This allows the rubber to shrink and expand and yet stay sealed.
If the car is rotten it needs obvious bodyshop attention.
And a new rubber if good quality with a good quality screen is the correct way to sort possible water ingress.
But on a hand made 20+ year old car theres no guarantee.

Thanks for your advice.

Looks like I am going to have to take the plunge and have the screen taken out!

Fingers crossed.

If it is a little leak then try this. Go to a Marine Chandlers & get a bottle of Captain Tolleys sealant. It is thiner than water & will wick into the very small gaps & then dry. Its worked for me in the past on both boats & cars. But it WON'T cure crevass size gaps.

Edited to add some on Fleabay!

Thanks, Jim.

I had to try "Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure" if only because of the name!

Unfortunately, although I can't find any huge gaps, it has not stopped the small, but steady drip in the rain.

Did you really go in a shop and ask for that?

I think Jim's advice was to drink it and forget about the leak

I wasn't prepared to ask for it over the counter, but it's amazing what you can order from the Internet!

Stupidly, I put it on the windscreen - now I realise that I would soon forget about the drips if I drink it!
