Evening all,

Exhaust on my motor is just beginning to blow - as the back box is going to need replacing, thought now would be a good time to swap it for a slightly funkier one which makes a slightly louder "vroom" then the current standard one. Any suggestions of what to buy, how much to spend, and where to get it from, etc? I don't want to spend too much money on something that is crap.

Have seen several online with wildly differing prices. I'd rather not spend £2k on a full s/s system as I think that is overkill, given the age and value of the car, but £300 - £700 for a rear box (as seen advertised) would be perfect. If this isn't realistic, please tell me what I need to consider. Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten.

In my misspent youth I remember getting one out of the back of Max Power for £120 and bolting it to a VW Polo Coupe, but I have my doubts that Max Power will quite cater to my requirements nowadays. A 911 is not the same as a Saxo VTR.... (Although I really, really wanted one 10 years ago  )

Many thanks,

James

Geoff Booth bought a new back system last year for his Speedster that sounds very good and from what I can remember was reasonably priced.

He'll be along later after Eastenders has finished :)

That sounds ideal - if you could let me have the details, that would be great. Best price I have so far is £360 + VAT for what I think is, at best, an average one. I can have it fitted for £60, which also seems very reasonable. Much appreciated.

I did indeed, thanks - went for a Dansk one in the end, due to time deadlines. Not as much vroom as I would like, but as the other one had started to blow and the car was in for major surgery it was the only thing I could get delivered in time. I'm pleased with it, but it isn't quite what I wanted. Should have paid attention to the Heinz advert - "Best things come to those who wait", which in this case would have meant importing from the US. Still, I know for next time...

Morning,

Thaks for the suggestion - I would agree about the noise at the top end. I have a K&N panel filter already but have been trying to source an induction kit for some time also. Any help you could give me on that would be much appreciated.

James

James with your K&N panel filter can you hear a slight whislte when you excellerate :?: i did have a panel filter but took mine off and sold it on :)

With a induction kit which i think is a cone filter will it be sucking cold air or the hot air from the engine :?

There isn't a whistle, but it sounds only slightly more roarty than standard. A little disillusioned wih the panel filter. I've had a cone induction kit on a number of cars, best was a BMW Z3 which made a noticeable improvement in throttle response and made it sound like an attack of dysentry in a tunnel. This is what I'm after for the Carrera but am struggling to find one at a sensible price.

James when i had my k&n panel filter on my 911 everytime you put the gas pedel down you could hear a faint whistle from the engine,i was told it was the cold air ruhing across the jet in the carb which i got a bit worried about so change it back to standard and the noise stopped.

Let me know how you get on with the cone filter :D
