Hi all,

I have a lovely 930 which is a bit of a restoration project of mine...and finally come to start work on the engine. It runs ok, but just a bit smoky! Have had a compression check done and it's fine in that regard, so don't think there's significant wear on the engine. It's done about 65000 miles so also not a real high mileage car.

I've taken it to my local Porsche specialist garage and they are suggesting it has a full engine re-build...and asking for an eye watering amount of money just to strip it down and re-build...and that's before the cost of parts come into the equation!

Can anyone suggest a reputable garage/person who can take a look for a second opinion, maybe also strip down and re-build a 930 turbo engine in the SE/Sussex area? Am happy to spread the net farther if necessary, just looking for the right guy/gal to help out.

Any help & recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Not sure of cost but I'd suggest Barry or Chris at Brooklands Kent in Swanley. They do some really high end rebuilds, not just Porsche but Ferrari as well.

Top air cooled man down here in the south is Eddie Bennett of Silvertune in Christchurch, 40 years spannering
Porsches has a dedicated engine rebuild department, prices are competitive,he carries out lots of air cooled engine work for other Porsche service set ups, including the people mentioned earlier in this post and he is a great bloke too. His number is 07702 465926

Have you thought to check if it’s an issue with the seals on the turbocharger itself that are causing the problem?
