Hi, Recently I purchased a 1986 911 Carrera 3.2. Over tha past few days I have been working on the heating . I've got it to the point that all blowers are working. The question: When I turn on the ignition switch, the heater blower in the engine compartment starts running regardless of the setting of any of the dash or console controls. Is this normal or do I have a hidden electrical problem. I also cant seem to control the temperature. I have the dial only near the parking brake.

Hi Benny and welcome to TIPEC, why not introduce yourself properly

911 heaters are a black art, have you read your handbook or the sticker on the inside of the glove box lid?

The engine blower on does anything while the car is stationary.

Do you get any heat?
Are the flapper valves are working?
Is the cable connected to the motor inside the centre consul?

Good luck

Hey Dave,
Thanks for your quick response, sorry for not introducing myself during this tense moment of technical confusion. My name is Ben and I reside in Long Island NY, this is my fourth Porsche. The problem with the engine blower staying on as normal operation is not addressed at all in the manuals. In fact the manual is just straight forward on the operation of the temperature levers. The flapper box seems to stay partially open thus giving me contant moderate heat as well. The footwell blowers work when the center console dial is rotated to the desired setting, however this car does not have the levers, it is fully electronic. I looked at the blower relay in the engine compartment and realize it is a controller with dual relays. I might try changing the relay first and go from there even though it is an expensive shot. Any other input would greatly be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Ben

Ben

Check this site out http://members.rennlist.com/imcarthur/911autoheat.htm

If the rain stops here I will go outside and check mine, but I cannot remember hearing the blower running all the time
