Post subject:  Pipe that isn't connected ??

Hi,
I've been into the luggage compartment tonight to replace the gas struts on my 1988 Carrera Cabrio & I've found a rubber hose approx 1/4'' diameter just behind the brake servo which isn't connected to anything :?:
I've traced it along the firewall with the washer jet hoses & it then goes towards the fusebox where it changes to white plastic pipe, as far as I can see it then terminates under the car behind the front bumper area ( when I blow down the tube, air comes out of this pipe ) any ideas what it is ?
I suspect it may be some type of drain tube but can't find what it should be connected to.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards Phil.

There is a drain tube on the master cylinder

Hi Dave, thanks for the info.
I went & had another look & I think that it has been connected as a vent from the brake fluid resevoir ( is this what you meant ? )
It appears to have been snapped off & someone has put a plug in the hole. I will have to tap a new connector into the resevoir & re-connect it.
Thanks again, Phil.

think its in case the reservoir is in danger of overflowing during pad changes etc , otherwise you will get brake fluid on the paintwork

they are definitely needed. They drain brake and clutch fluid as it swirls around the the fluid chamber and vents it off to the floor.

I recommend you reconnect it.....

All re-connected now.
Tapped a connector form a washer jet into the resevoir to replace the snapped part & re-connected pipe.
Thanks for your help.
Phil.
